Farrell Claims First Blood

RYAN Farrell signalled he will be tough when he goes out on the road soon to contest World Series Sprintcars when he claimed the 25-lap Watsons Express Transport sprintcar feature race at the Perth Motorplex on the opening night.

Farrell started on the pole with Kerry Madsen, led for much of the race and survived a spirited challenge from Madsen to win the race in convincing fashion.

Farrell’s team mate and owner Luch Monte finished third in an exciting race that set the scene for a big racing on the Kwinana Beach track.

The driver of the #95 entry led the field away on both restarts and despite losing the lead momentarily it was his race.

Madsen closed in on Farrell in traffic with 16 laps to go when David Priolo spun for the second time and was sent infield.

Madsen continued to hunt for a faster passage on the high banks and after it looked like he was going to get the job done on the high line he slid underneath with six laps remaining.

After running in close quarters for a couple of laps Farrell fought back for the lead.

Despite his motor smoking towards the end of the bout Madsen kept the right foot firmly planted on the floor in an attempt to claw back the gap.

But Farrell, who is the master of the Motorplex, was having none of it on his quest for the win.

‘Flyan Ryan’ will be back at the Motorplex in two weeks for his last shakedown in the Monte Motorsport machine before he joins the country’s best in the World Series show.

“Yeah mate it was an awesome job, a lot of hours have gone into this car,” Farrell said.

“For us it is a very good start.”

“We get to race here in a fortnight’s time and then we are gone…a big thanks to Luch Monte who has given me the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Despite not getting the win in his first drive for the Kendrick team Madsen was still pretty upbeat and said he blistered his tyres towards the end of the showdown.

“Thanks to the guys who gave me a great car,” Madsen said.

“It’s an honour to be over here…it’s an awesome facility.

“I let the boys down…I had the lead and should have shut him down.”

And in what will be good news for racefans, he has promised to redeem himself in two weeks.

“I hope I can go a good job for them then.”

Monte, who prefers to drive the racecar instead of speak in front of the microphone, was pretty matter of fact but the start of his night.

“We sucked in the first two heats.”

But the good news is he recovered well to stand on the podium at the business end of the night.
