The Silver Bullett Was Let Loose!
Ryan Farrell and the entire team on the Russell Hall’s Bunbury Auto Group #95 were pretty determined to perform well at the opening round of the AHG Series in Perth last Saturday night.
A complete rebuild of the of the two Ex-Kinser Maxims had been undertaken during the off season, and Farrell was impressed with the mounts after racing over on the east coast in previous weeks. “Brand Passmore did a brilliant job on the cars. We now have 4 Maxwill motors and 2 cars ready for this season. Tonight we are using K3 as I call it, and K4 the green car I finished last year with we will be saving for the big shows like World Series, Australian Title and The Krikke Boys Shootout.” He said prior to hitting the track.
In the heats Farrell showed his class, moving forward through the traffic with comparative ease. He opened with a win in heat one and backed that up with an equally impressive second in heat number two, knowing he would have enough points to earn pole position for the A-Main.
And at the start of the A-Main he looked the goods, running away from the rest of the field in what was a very torrid 25 lap race. Just after mid race distance he would lose the lead in traffic, and started what would be a stirring battle with Luche Monte and Shaun Bradford. With six laps to go things didn’t look good as he had dropped to fourth at what would be the final restart.
In Ryan’s words “I had to go elbows up and drive the thing hard as the collapsing front wing really tightened the car up”. And that’s just what he did taking second away from Monte on the line in a scorching run over those last six laps.
On the presentation dais Farrell was quite philosophical about the Main event. “I was never going to give up as we were no good with front wing like it was. I’ve got to congratulate to Shaun as he had it over us tonight. We have spent a lot of money over the off season and thanks to my crew for the job they’ve done as I didn’t even see the car till I arrived at the track this afternoon.”
A second might not have been the result that the Bunbury Auto Group/Cowra Contractors #95 Maxwill Maxim team wanted, but they will take it and make sure they return for the next round of the AHG Sprintcar Series ready for anything the rest of the field can throw at them in two weeks time.
