And He Came Away Smiling.
Ryan Farrell went in to the opening round of the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars with some realistic expectations about what results he could achieve against the best sprintcar drivers in the country, and came out with a result that anyone would be proud of.
Farrell played all the smart options over the night to earn himself and his Miracle Recreation Equipment #95 J&J a coveted front row start in the all important A-Main event. After qualifying in tenth at the beginning of the night in time trials, he then proceeded to have a brilliant opening heat which saw Farrell move from starting position seven and ‘slice and dice’ his way through the field to grab a valuable win.
“The win in the opening heat was just the thing I needed to take some of the pressure off and allow me to be a bit more conservative during my second heat” he said after the meeting “Its all about collecting points and make sure we make the top eight dash which is what we achieved”. He used that to great effect making sure that the #95 yellow machine came home in one piece in his second qualifier, moving forward two spots to grab a sixth spot finish and enough points to run the top eight dash.
The Kim Buswell prepared car did all it needed too during the new top 8 dash format and Farrell had what he required to give himself a chance of a series round win, an outside pole start. He started well, jumping to the lead over multiple series champion Brooke Tatnell and leading for at least a third of the event. He looked good out front until he missed the cushion and you only have to give the likes of Tatnell one chance and he was through to take the lead over Farrell.
Farrell battled hard to try and get the lead back, utilising all his skills to try and wrestle the lead back. As the laps started to run out he would miss the cushion one more time with three to go and Max Dumesny pounced on the opportunity to take away second.
“The track was treacherous tonight and I tried everything I could to stay out in front but I only made the mistake twice of jumping the cushion and its all you need to do when you are running with the calibre of drivers we are running against here on WSS.” He said later on after the meeting. “I knew what I wanted to achieve this weekend in regards to what we need to do for a good result over the entire schedule, and I can say that I would have been happy with a top ten, so a podium result is a bonus.”
