Almost A Perfect Weekend For Farrell.

He almost had it, a perfect weekend. It was a win and $12000 dollars short.

That’s how Ryan Farrell’s weekend finished up at the Michael Nanovich/King Of The Wings event held at the Perth Motorplex last Friday and Saturday nights.

Farrell showed once again just why he is considered a force to be reckoned with each and every time he and the Bunbury Auto Group tem unload the #95 Maxim at each event that they compete at.

With $20000 dollars on the line for the winner, and the close association between Farrell and the Nanovich and Monte families, Ryan had plenty of reasons to try and take out this one. And he gave it his all over the two nights of intense competition.

On the Friday he started things off with a top ten time trial, a second in his heat and he started to pour on the heat in the A Dash by winning it in fine style. He then started form outside pole and showed just how fast the ‘Silver Bullet’ #95 could be, leading every lap of the twenty lap preliminary main event.

He continued that form in to night 2, taking out a brilliant heat win and giving him more confidence heading for the A Dash. But he had to settle for a second here as former World of Outlaws regular Tim Schaffer took the win.

And Schaffer would come back to haunt him. Starting from third in the final he had a brilliant battle with the American, running wheel to wheel with him for a number of laps until he eventually wrangled second away from him, and then setting his sights on leader Mark Wells. Farrell looked the goods as the cars hit traffic only to have yellow lights slow proceedings and hand Wells a clear track on a number of occasions. At the second last restart Farrell tried one last time to get by him, but a huge wheel stand proved to be ‘Flyan’ Ryan’s undoing.

“I tried to drive the wheels off it, but when I pulled the big wheelie it blew the power steering line and covered me and the cockpit in fluid. I just kept going and run the final laps with no power steering and at the end my arms were ready to drop off. That last restart (with two to go) saved me as I was a sitting duck and I mustered everything I could to finish those last two laps and as I crossed the line and collapsed in the car. They had to help me out of the car as that was everything I had.” He said latter in the pits.

“All in all I’m disappointed not to have won, but between this weekend and the Australian title weekend we’ve been solid and had as much car speed as anyone. When you run against the likes of Schaffer you know your gonna be up against it.”

Of course he was over the moon with the handling of his car prior to the mechanical failure. “Geoff Murphy gave me a brilliant car once again. I thought it was a little tight early but Murph’ once again gave me the fastest car over the final ten laps. My crew led by Steve (Duggan) and Brand (Passmore) once again did a sensational job in preparing this car and thanks again to my sponsors who support me so well.”

One A-Main first, one A-Main second – almost the perfect weekend!
