Farrell Realistic About Opening Rounds Of WSS.
Last Saturday night Ryan Farrell did something different, yes he was at a Sprintcar meeting, but for the first time in a long time it was without a ride.
Farrell ventured to the opening round of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar series to support car owner Luch Monte as his own ride was back in Perth, crew chief Kim “Buzzy” Buswell taking care of the final preparations prior to hitting the road for the big trip to Queensland to contest the opening round of the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars at Brisbane International Speedway.
“Would I like to be racing, you bet” he said as he strolled the pit area of the south west venue “but Buzzy and Dillon are on the road first thing tomorrow morning and have to finish off all three cars and pack it all away. I was keen to come and race tonight but I understand we couldn’t.”
Farrell is as eager as anyone who is about to hit the road and start living the dream that he has always wanted – to compete week in/week out racing Australia’s best and some of ‘Uncle Sam’s’ toughest in the PWWSS trail.
“Out of all the world series rounds probably Queensland will be my weakest” he said this week “We’ve already discussed this and we would like to get in and out of Queensland with some top tens and the car in one piece. The way we see it is that as the series goes on we should get stronger and stronger, and to finish here at home going gang busters would be fantastic.”
He is under no illusions, realizing that it will be tough out there on the road for him and the team and they need to be consistent during the season. “The idea is to keep our nose clean and try and stay in the top five in points up to the three quarter mark of the season and then use our home track advantage in February and finish off on a real high.”
“The way the points are structured you can’t afford to drop a round and when your not having a good night you have to salvage as many points as you can by grabbing a fifth or a seventh or something. You just have to finish.”
It’s all about working as a team as they will be racing against a lot of good cars and to be in with a chance to win PWWSS they will have to be smart and do a good job. “In years gone by I’ve had some great cars but not the best that was out there. There is no doubt that the ride I have now with Monte Motorsport is the best equipment I’ve ever had.”
The speed is there, the team has all the equipment in place and Farrell has the talent to make a big impression on the toughest series in Australia. “We leave WA very optimistic about what we can achieve this season. We have been fast every night we have raced together as a team, winning the major percentage of them. I can’t ask for any more that that.”
