Ryan Farrell - From Chocolates To Boiled Lollies…

It was one of those weekends for Monte Motorsports last weekend at Northline Speedway in Darwin.

Everything started out just how the entire team wanted for the first weekend of the Chariots of Thunder Series with both drivers, Luch Monte and Ryan Farrell, as both were on the pace from the opening green flag. Both of them showed that they are forces to be reckoned with for this series as neither driver finished off the podium in their heats or the preliminary feature of night one.

Monte earned pole position with his G&S Seedlings/Miracle Recreation Equipment #17 J&J for the final with a win and second place during his two qualifying heats, while Farrell had to make do with starting from third after his two heats (one win, one third). Both got away well at the start and would finish with a win and a third at the checkered flag but with the positions reversed, Farrell taking the win with Monte having to settle for the final podium position at the end of the 20 lap final.

Come the Saturday and both drivers went in to the nights proceedings full of confidence in knowing they had the speed to run, and beat, the other 25 plus Sprintcar drivers that they would be coming up against for the night, and showed they meant business early when Farrell won the opening heat of the evening, while Monte grabbed a second during his opening heat.

Farrell continued to finish in the top three in his second heat behind the wheel of his M.G. Monte & Sons/Stevens Farms #95 J&J, erasing any doubt to those who were present that he was there for the win and not to make up numbers, while Monte had his worst heat race result with a sixth in his final qualifier.

It all looked good for the Monte Motorsports Team as they headed out for the 30 lap A-Main. But it all ended in disappointment as all the good work came undone early as both cars struck problems due to no fault of their own. Farrell looked strong until contact with a rut sent the #95 machine on its side. The resulting damage was only superficial and afterwards the team was positive that if an open red light stoppage had of been thrown, Farrell would of returned to finish out the final.

So it was up to Monte to show what Monte Motorsports are capable of achieving, only to have his luck ‘head for the hills’. As the race started he was looking the goods, only to have a tyre cut down on him. Monte battled on bravely hoping for the chance to change the deflating donut at a red light stoppage but it was to no avail as the tyre disintegrated, ending his chances of another podium finish.

So after a hectic weekend the entire team finished with a double podium/double infield result, but come away with the knowledge that they have the speed to be up front and all they need is some luck for this weekend where they will contest another two nights at Northline Speedway for the Chariots of Thunder Series.
