It was a battle of the westerners with last Saturday night’s Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway featuring Ryan Farrell and Ken Sartori fighting it out for the sprintcar A Main victory. Racing the Sydney owned Rod and John Maxwell Bestway Industries Maxim Ryan Farrell took out his maiden TPCR feature victory after blasting by Ken Sartori on lap 22, leaving his fellow WA racer to pick up second with a very impressive Kelly Linigen home in third.

The thirty lap A Main was superb with Farrell latching on Sartori’s tail mid race with the two trading positions a number of times. Farrell would blast by only to have Sartori retake the lead as the pair staged a sensational but clean wheel to wheel sprintcar action. Sartori looked to have the upper hand but after slipping wide Farrell seized the moment and forged by to take a race winning lead. Kelly Linigen who at one stage held second picked up third at the checker while another tremendous battle saw Victorian ace Matthew Reed fourth followed by Craig Brady and Ian Loudoun to complete the top six finishers.

There were over fifty sprintcars on hand for round 5 of the 2007/8 TPCR track championship with the locals boosted by Andrew Scheuerle and Phil Foster venturing south while Matthew Reed and Gary Ison (USA) where in a pair of Victorian based sprinters. Early qualifying time trails saw James Thomson with a fast 11.810 time setting quick time followed by Bruce White (11.835), Grant Tunks (11.890), Roddy BellBowen (11.961), Ken Sartori (12.039) and Craig Brady (12.044) the top six.

After young 16 year old Taylor Johnson easily defeated Anthony Barrie and Keith Devonshire in winning the non qualifiers race, but a nasty looking crash on the opening lap of heat 1 saw David Craft end for ending his Eagle resulting with him being taken to hospital. After a short delay heat one was taken out by Wayne Skipper with David Doherty and Brett Loadsman in the minor places. After an incident between Martin Lawes and Craig Morrison at the start of heat two, the race was taken out by Ian Madsen with Morrison and Lawes following him home. Former drag racer Chris Stipanovich held off a determined Matthew Reed to win heat three with Mark Richards third. In the final 8 lap heat and fast starting Ryan Farrell took the win over Andrew Scheuerle and Kelly Linigen.

After a few crashes and incidents the C Main was declared after a few laps but in the B Main a very fast Roddy BellBowen took the win over James Thomson with Grant Tunks, Craig Brady, Adrian Maher and Stuart Williams the next best finishers.

The first Dash race saw the win going to Ian Madsen over Bruce White and Ryan Farrell with Clayton Hart the only non finisher. Mark Richards suffering electrical problems returned back into pits before the start of Dash two and was a non starter. The win was taken out by Ken Sartori with Matthew Reed and Ian Loudoun placing second and third.

With Mark Richards electrical drama’s continued as field lined up for the A Main feature Adrian Maher as the first reserve was rushed into the feature field starting back in last position. When the race started an incident in turn one saw Bruce White, David Doherty and Wayne Skipper getting tangled stopping the race. At the restart Madsen jumped into the lead with Sartori, Farrell and Linigen following, with Reed and Loudoun right behind. Three laps in and the race was again stopped after Hart had spun in turn 2. Unfortunately race leader Madsen got caught out in the incident with also involved Trofa. Madsen with a bent race car was an instant retirement giving the race lead to Sartori. Both Thomson and Lawes visited the work area during the stoppage but Lawes was a retirement with bent radius rod. The restart saw Sartori take charge with Linigen moving by Farrell and into third position. By lap 8 the top three positions remained unchanged with Reed, Perovich, Loudoun, Brady, BellBowen, Tunks and Orr in the top places. Interestingly both Brady and BellBowen came from the rear after qualifying from the B Main. After Perovich caused a stoppage with a broken shock bolt, Farrell retook second from Linigen and set after Sartori. Mid race and Sartori had a determined Farrell on his tail with the pair staging a brilliant battle racing wing to wing for a number of laps. Behind Linigen was secure in third while Reed then Brady and Loudoun right behind. The battle was again intense with Farrell again challenging Sartori for the lead but with Sartori’s Cool drifting up track, Farrell blasted by and into the lead. Farrell moved slightly away from Sartori while Linigen started to come under pressure from Reed but on the final lap Sartori had caught up to Farrell and tried to retake the lead and the win on the final lap. Farrell was able to hold on taking his maiden PCR sprintcar victory with Sartori second, Linigen third followed by Reed, Brady and Loudoun.
