“The Silver Bullet” Fly’s At Bunbury.

The track was tough and ‘Flyan” Ryan Farrell was fast, but it all came undone in the A-Main last Saturday night at Bunbury City Speedway.

Ryan was keen to make it three wins in a row in Western Australia having taken wins at his two previous starts, the Sprintcar Muster held at the Perth Motorplex and the Margaret River round of the Southern Thunder Series. He had the speed and the determination and he showed it right from the start of the night.

Farrell had the opposition on toast all through the time trials, heats, knockouts and the early laps of the A-Main only to have a titanium bolt break in his steering. “It was a brand new bolt at the start of the season so it was totally unexpected for it to break” he said after returning to the pits “that’s the way it goes.”

Earlier on he showed the rest of the field exactly what he could do and must have the opposition wondering exactly what they have to do to stop him. Time trials ended with Farrell at the top of the list stopping the clock with a time of 13.75 seconds.

From there he put on a clinic in passing, or so he thought. Heat two was perfect, a great run from the back to score a win just as he had done in heat one. The only difference, the officials penalized him after heat one for passing on the infield.

At the heat two post race interview Ryan was philosophical about it. “Some times you get the calls your way, sometimes you don’t, so I had to go back two spots for each car I passed.” (Giving him 4th officially). Even with the penalty Ryan was top points going into the 2-lap knockout series.

This meant he was the one they were all chasing, but youngster Shaun Bradford had no answer for the Bunbury Auto Group/Cowra Contractors #95 in the last knockout round and had to watch on as Farrell drove on to take out a good win and earn pole position for the Hot FM sponsored final.

But even though the final ended in an undesirable way, no could keep up with Farrell at each of the starts he contested. Talking with Ryan afterwards he was more than happy with the cars speed and the fact that he had done a brilliant job of keeping the car off the fence when the bolt broke at top speed entering turn three at the high speed Bunbury clay way.

Next weekend Farrell hits the road for the two big shows on the east coast, namely the Kings Challenge at Borderline Speedway Mount Gambier, and then the two night extravaganza the Warnambool Classic at Sungold Stadium.
