Farrell Fares Well In First PWWSS Attempt:

It might not ended exactly how he wanted it to, but Ryan Farrell and the Monte Motorsports #95 team can walk away with their heads held high after a tough season on the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars for 2009/10.

Separately the team may be full of experience, but to combine together in their first year as a group is a remarkable achievement and something that all concerned should be happy about. Farrell has done the hard yards competing at different tracks all over Australia in the past couple of years driving whenever and for whoever he can, while veteran Crew Chief Kim Buswell has raced with a number of drivers, some of the best to compete in Australia, but to make it all work together is a credit for both of them, crew member Dillon Buswell and car owner Luch Monte.

Farrell had hoped to bring home a couple of wins during his home coming in the final rounds during the PWWSS Western Swing, but it wasn’t to be. He threw everything at it and gave himself every chance to take the wins, eventually walking away with two second placings and one third place during the final three nights on the tour.

Although happy with the results, you could tell by the tone of his voice that Farrell would of loved a win that he so desired. “We are as happy as you can be with seconds and thirds I guess. We were hoping to win a round or two of World Series this season, but they’ve been very hard to come by. Heading home we have had a good run in this car in the last six to eight shows and we were in high spirits to win one of the last three nights. We came close but not close enough.”

Looking back at the year it wasn’t lost on Farrell how tough it was to win this year as he went head to head with the toughest field in many a year on the World Series trail. “There’s no question, the World Series fraternity is like one big family and I get on well with most of the crew chiefs, and after speaking too many of them during the course of the season that this is by far and away considered the most difficult season we have had on the road ever. From that you have to take some consideration as to how hard it is. I think I’ve raced harder this year for fourth and fifths than I have to win races in the past, so to put it in to perspective it’s a good result for Monte Motorsport. Our aim was to finish in the top five and we achieved that, but on a personal note you always like to achieve more and it’s been some time since I have had a win and I’m hungry to win another one.”

Farrell understands that the support shown to him this year was the best he could have wished for and was full of praise for his sponsors for all the financial help, but he knows nothing would have happened with out the efforts of his team. Luch Monte, Kim and Dillon Buswell and all the team at Monte Motorsports have provided a chance at a dream, something not lost on the west coast hard charger.

“I’ve been in this sport for a long time and done a fair bit of travelling over the years but the effort to race World Series especially during the December January period and to be involved in that, working on the car, washing the truck is so hard on your team. The workload on your crew guys is so high, plus the driving to the tracks sometimes up to twelve hours between shows, it’s brutal actually. It’s a big thanks to Buzzy and Dil for what they have done for us, it has been tough and we have had our times don’t worry about that when things get a bit short tempered, but to their credit we have really fired on and we came out of that hard part of the season and have got some good results. Full credit goes to them and I hope I’ve rewarded them with a reasonable result” he said in the pits after the final night.

But there is no time for the team to relax as the ‘Month of Money’ continues on the west coast with round three of the Hydraulink Southern Thunder Series at Collie this weekend. Farrell showed he could win at the south west bowl last year until and incident with Jamie Maiolo resulted in Farrell parked on the infield with a broken front axle. Farrell’s desire to win is always evident no matter where he races, but with it being so long since that last win, nothing would please him more than to reward his team with a win this Saturday night.
