Farrell gave it his all…..
He wanted to win this one, and he gave it his all, but Ryan Farrell will live with the fact he is Australia #3.
He was the one to watch all weekend, leading the points and being one of the fastest around the Perth Motorplex on all three nights of the Australian Championship, but as the checkered flag fell after the grueling 35 lap final the result didn’t belie the effort.
“That’s probably the best car I’ve ever had over 35 laps, I just didn’t need that last yellow at the end there that I helped to cause” he said after the final event.
“Lapped traffic was my only chance to get past Garry (Brazier), even right at the end there I was faster than he was but he was running the top, I was running the top and unless he made a mistake it was going to be tough to get him. Then with two laps to go it coughed, and we started to get low on fuel and that gave Trevor Green the chance to get us for second.”
He may have been down when it came to the result, but he was over the moon with the effort from behind the scenes he has received, especially from his team.
“Full credit to Murph (Geoff Murphy), the further we went the better the car got. My team, lead by Steve Duggan, have done an awesome job this weekend giving me a car that gave us a chance to achieve the number one. This team has really gelled together the last couple of months, we’ve had some dramas this season but we seem to have ironed the bugs out now and I’m looking forward to the coming events at Bunbury and Kwinana.”
“My sponsors too have been sensational once again this year, Russell Hall and his Bunbury Auto Group, Cowra Contractors and the rest of my sponsors they have been fantastic. Plus Hoosier Tyres, Craig and Graham from Racin Tyres and Accessories and Genesis Shocks for the backup they provided this weekend.”
And what about the fans that once took pleasure in booing the former ‘Bad Boy’ when he exited the car? “It’s good. It’s always nice to be liked and to have people appreciate what you do. I suppose I win people over with my never say die attitude, just never give up. I hope they enjoyed what I did tonight.”
The biggest event on the Australian Sprintcar calendar has been run and won, but the Bunbury Auto Group #95 Maxim and the rest of the team will put that one behind them and start to prepare for the next big event for the ‘Month of Money’ here in WA when he battles it out at Bunbury Speedway this Saturday night for round three of the Hydraulink Southern Thunder Series.
