No Win, But ‘Flyan’ Ryan Put On The Show.
The Krikke Boys Shootout is without a doubt Ryan Farrell’s most sought after event win, but the 2009 version would once again see the Western Australian Champ come away with out the win.
One thing was for sure, Ryan went in to the two night extravaganza confident, but it all came undone on night one when during a yellow light he received damage from another competitor who didn’t see the stoppage signals. An extremely frustrated Farrell headed back to the pits knowing his night was done.
Speaking to Ryan prior to night two all he had to say was “Keep an eye on me tonight” and those that did saw an awesome effort by this outstanding hard charger. He knew that even a heat win on the final night wasn’t going to get him into the A-Main and would have to transfer from the B.
And that’s where the show began.
Ryan used the top part of the racetrack to perfection, passing cars where no one else would go. He was brilliant moving up to second place at the end of the twenty lap last chance qualifier. But it didn’t stop there.
Starting out of the second last row in position eighteen, Farrell once again went to the top and proceeded to pass cars like no one else could. He was brilliant, simple as that, and in the end after passing twelve cars during the thirty five lap final he came home with a brilliant sixth.
He passed more cars than anybody over the two nights of competition, and team manager Steve Duggan was more than happy with the chauffer of the Bunbury Auto Group #95 Maxim after the show. “He was certainly in there with a chance, and after last night the show he put on was pretty bloody good because we were no where. The tyre (compound rule) let us down tonight, but you can be sure we will be back bigger and better next time that’s for sure.”
Farrell was happy even though he wasn’t showing it. “It’s been a disappointing weekend really” he said back in the pits after the main “It didn’t start well through no fault of our own when one of our own fellow competitors drives by his front wing drove over our front end and pretty much ruined our whole weekend. But tonight to get back to sixth is pretty reasonable I guess.”
And once again the fans showed their appreciation for his drive, showing up in droves after the meeting at the back of the Cowra Contractors hauler, something Ryan was pretty impressed about. “This is what it’s all about. The fans are a big part of it and they are very important to me, because with out the fans you’ve got nothing really. This is the reason we keep soldering on and we will be back next week to do our best”.
It’s been the biggest annual show in WA for the past four years, and once again Ryan Farrell showed up to be part of it and no one was left doubting just how much he wants to win this one.
